Health Infrastructure Key to Quality Care, Says President Mnangagwa

Zimbabwe’s drive to modernise its health sector received another boost yesterday following the commissioning of the refurbished Adlam House and Nurses Home at the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, with President Emmerson Mnangagwa describing improved health infrastructure as central to national development and quality healthcare delivery.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Harare, President Mnangagwa said investment in hospitals, accommodation for health workers and modern medical equipment was critical in building a resilient healthcare system capable of serving communities across both rural and urban Zimbabwe.

“It is my singular honour and privilege to officiate at this historic milestone marking the commissioning of newly refurbished Adlam House and Nurses Home,” said the President, adding that the developments reflected the country’s broader national transformation agenda.

The refurbishment project forms part of wider efforts by Government to modernise the country’s health institutions under Vision 2030. President Mnangagwa said health infrastructure development remained inseparable from economic and social progress.

“Under the Second Republic, my Administration is modernising our health system through infrastructure development, human capital development and capacity building
as well as improved service delivery,” he said.

The President stressed that decent accommodation and improved welfare facilities for nurses and trainee health professionals were essential for strengthening the health delivery system. He described student nurses, doctors and healthcare trainees as “the backbone of the health delivery system of tomorrow”.

He said Government would continue investing in suitable learning and living environments for healthcare workers to improve morale, training standards and service delivery. The newly upgraded facilities at Parirenyatwa include improved accommodation and recreational amenities designed to support the physical and mental wellbeing of students and health professionals.

President Mnangagwa also highlighted broader reforms taking place within Zimbabwe’s healthcare system, including the procurement of modern digitally enabled medical equipment and the strengthening of emergency response systems.

“This broad and pro-active shift being championed by my government entails that patients receive diagnosis and treatment plans in a single visit,” he said.

He noted that the Presidential Hospital Renovation Programme was already underway at major institutions including Parirenyatwa, Mpilo Central Hospital and Sally Mugabe Central Hospital, with plans to extend upgrades nationwide.

The President said partnerships between Government, the private sector and development partners would remain vital in transforming Zimbabwe’s health sector and ensuring access to quality healthcare services for all citizens.
